“Koi Pond” turned out to be another awkward episode of The Office, with the drama between Pam and Michael being put on hold as the office obsessed over Michael’s most recent, ridiculous blunder. Was the episode as silly as “Mafia”? No. This one had some good moments but still, I hate to say it but I think this ep might be nearly as forgettable. “I am going to scare these kids so bad.” The episode opened with the Dunder Mifflin staff awaiting the arrival of some little kids who were visiting to see the haunted house that was set up in the warehouse. While Kelly sported a Fifth Element costume and Meredith dressed as a hobo that Darryl mistook to be the old crone from Drag Me to Hell, Michael topped them all, rocking a “Dick in a Box” costume. I’m not sure which aspect of this look was worse; the fact that he wore a costume like that for an event that involved kids or the ridiculously dated-ness of the ensemble. Tonight begins the second season of “Whale Wars” in which a scruffy band of eco-crusaders, the Sea Shepherds, go to war against the evil whaling ships, by any means necessary. The reviews for the first season were great. Local residents from Stewart have reported receiving anonymous phone calls from scammers who are convincing residents that they have won prize money. A female identifying herself as Deborah Holland of Publisher’s Clearing House called stating that the resident had won 10 million dollars and that it would be delivered on Tuesday, October 20 at 10am. The residents would be personally escorted to the bank to receive their prize money because the amount was too large to be home delivered. She finished her conversation by stating they would need to pay $6,000 for the state taxes in advance. The money would need to be sent via phone transfer. The resident wanted to discuss this further with a family member and soon heard some chatter in the background but could not make of what was said, the caller disconnected and was never heard from again. David Shepherd, one of cricket's most genial and best-loved umpires, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 68 and leaves a long-time partner, Jenny, who he married last year. Shepherd stood in 92 Tests between 1983 and 2005 and 172 ODIs, including three consecutive World Cup finals, advancing England's reputation, with Dickie Bird, for producing the finest umpires in the world. He was a romantic, sentimental man, especially when it came to cricket, and resented what he saw as examples of greed creeping into the modern game. Nineteen year-old contemporary dancer Billy Bell from West Palm Beach, Florida is out of the running in this season’s “So You Think You Can Dance”. It’s not because he sucks because we all thought he could dance really well. In fact even the judges think he can really dance so much so that they ended up crying upon watching his solo in Vegas. However, the doctors have declared that he CAN’T dance just yet. According to a statement (allegedly from the Bell family) posted on SYTYCDISM, Billy Bell is ill and, though “feeling better”, still needs to take time to recuperate. In fact Billy will not be able to go back to SYTYCD this season nor could he go back to train at Juilliard. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson issued his second apology in 12 months Tuesday and was told to stay away from the team while the NFL and the Chiefs complete their investigation into his use of a gay slur. As Johnson was releasing his apology, a national gay rights advocacy organization called on the league and the team to take disciplinary action against the two-time Pro Bowler. The latest chapter in Johnson's stormy career began Sunday night when he questioned coach Todd Haley's football credentials on his Twitter account. He used the slur during an exchange with one of his Twitter followers. A day later, he used it again as he brushed off reporters and told them he would not comment, according to the Kansas City Star, which recorded the comment. Steve Phillips was recently fired from ESPN. Then late last night, Mike Soltys from ESPN sent out a tweet on Twitter that said: “Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN. His ability to be an effective rep of ESPN has been significantly & irreparably damaged,” said Mike Soltys from ESPN. Salt and Light received a much needed makeover from Extreme makeover Home Edition. Salt and Light Ministry is 6 years old and this is their first renovation. Salt and Light is in Champaign, Illinois. Extreme Makeover Home Edition gave Salt and Light new lights, a coat of paint, new freezers, refurbishing the Ministry’s office, lobby and multi-purpose room. Extreme Makeover not only did the physical structures but also raised the outreach of the Salt and Light Ministry. The donations for the projects have been boosted. Salt and Light used to distribute food weekly to 240 families. After the publicity from Extreme Makeover, Salt and Light was able to get more food supplies and they can now distribute food to 330 families, which is an increment of 90 families.
