LAKEWOOD, Wash., Nov. 29 (UPI) — Four off-duty police officers were fatally shot in a Sunday ambush near Tacoma, Wash., officials said. The three male officers and one female officer were in a coffee shop discussing cases and checking their laptops when a gunman entered and shot all four, CNN reported. “This was a targeted, selected ambush,” Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ed Troyer said. Two employees and other customers were unharmed, Troyer said. “Just the law enforcement officers were targeted.” Police are searching for a suspect in the 8 a.m. shooting, described as an African-American male wearing a black coat and blue jeans. He is believed to have fled the scene on foot, police said. A $10,000 reward has been offered for information resulting in an arrest, they announced. The shooting happened in Lakewood, Washington, 40 miles south of Seattle and about 10 miles from Tacoma, CNN reported. CENTRAL VALLEY – Police said a stabbing in the parking lot of Woodbury Common on Wednesday afternoon was not a random act. A longstanding dispute led to a Warwick man in his early 20s being stabbed in the back several times. He was treated and released at the Arden Hill Campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. Town of Woodbury Police investigated and arrested two of three suspects. Rodney Jean, 22, of Chester was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Ashton Dieudonne, 18, also of Chester, was charged with third-degree assault. A third person is still being sought by police. Tomorrow at 4 pm EST, the Oprah Winfrey show will focus on the case of Eric Wrinkles, who was sentenced to death in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, for killing his estranged wife and two of her relatives while he was in a meth-induced psychosis. The show includes interviews with Wrinkles and victims' family members. The show was produced a couple of months ago; on November 3rd, the Indiana Supreme Court set December 11th as Wrinkles' execution date. He's exhausted all appeals and probably will not be pursuing clemency so December 11th is a firm date. One of the victims' mothers testified at trial and again in state post-conviction proceedings against imposing the death penalty. New Mexico soccer defender Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended indefinitely from all team practices, competition and conditioning activities after punching Carlee Payne in the back, kicking the ball into the face of another player and violently yanking Kassidy Shumway to the ground by her ponytail. The incidents in question occurred during a Mountain West women’s semifinal soccer game between Brigham Young and New Mexico on Thursday, November 6. Surprisingly, Lambert remained on the field, receiving a single yellow card from referee Joe Pimentel near the end of the game for tripping a BYU player. President Obama said today his prayers are with the victims of the Fort Hood shootings, as he paid tribute to all of those who risk their lives to serve their country. "It's difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas," the president said. "It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil." So it's a pleasant surprise that The People vs. Leo Frank — writer/director Ben Loeterman’s half documentary, half re-enactment — still feels fresh in its depiction of Georgia’s most infamous murder trial. Part of it is the timing: The movie comes more than 20 years after the last film work, the Emmy-winning mini-series starring Jack Lemmon and then-unknowns Peter Gallagher, Kevin Spacey and Cynthia Nixon. NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Meb Keflezighi has become the first American man to win the New York City Marathon since 1982. Keflezighi, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist, earned his first major marathon title Sunday. Born in Eritrea, the 34-year-old became a U.S. citizen in 1998. He was second in New York in 2004 and third in 2005. Keflezighi, wearing "USA on his chest, won in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 15 seconds. Four-time Boston Marathon champ Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya was second. Morocco's Jaouad Gharib finished third and American Ryan Hall was fourth. American Alberto Salazar won three straight NYC Marathons from 1980-82. Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia was the women's winner, with 41-year-old Russian Ludmila Petrova the runner-up for the second straight year.
