People should care. The close quarters of waiting in line at WalMart, Best Buy, or other high-profile retailer for the Black Friday deals and doorbusters will place people in close quarters with others. That is precisely the type of situation you should avoid.
With few having access to the H1N1 swine flu vaccine, many are unprotected. Being in close quarters with someone who has swine flu, or even has been around someone with swine flu, is risky.
Medical sources indicate that the swine flu can remain viable for up to 3 hours on surfaces. Thus, if a person has come in contact with someone with the swine flu, by shaking hands perhaps, or by having a person touch their purse or clothes, that part of the body or items will has viable H1N1 virus on it.
Additionally, a person infected with H1N1 swine flu will not be symptomatic until one day after they are infectious. That means, therefore, that they will appear perfectly healthy, but will be able to transmit the swine flu to others for 24 hours.
Should this scare you away from Black Friday deals? Possibly not, but weigh the benefits against the negatives. Are those deals you might be missing enough to risk getting the H1N1 swine flu? Perhaps you should wait for Cyber Monday instead. Or at least, don't get too close to that person next to you. They might be a carrier.
