Skeletal remains found on a Virginia farm may be that of Morgan Harrington, but an official identification has not yet been made. Harrington’s mother Gil spoke to a local CBS affiliate, saying the remains are “probably” her daughters, and Harrington’s parents were on the scene to assist in identifying the body: “We don’t think it’s been proved definitively yet, but it’s most likely,” she said. “So, we want to go and be on hand and see if that determination can be made. Or if we can help in making that determination.” Gil Harrington said she wanted to thank people for all their prayers and the efforts to find Morgan. “I was hoping we would find her alive, but at least we won’t always be wondering for a lifetime,” she said. For nearly a decade, Guillermo Socarras has had a dream of constructing the world's tallest building in Miami. But plans have shifted. Backers, if they were ever really there, have backed out. Air America, the progressive talk radio network, said Thursday that it would cease broadcasting immediately, bowing to what it called a “very difficult economic environment.” “It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding down of the business,” the chairman of Air America Media, Charlie Kireker, said in a memorandum. Well, that was wild. The second of three, and possibly four, Pacific storms was supposed to be the mildest of the bunch. But, so far, it has turned out to be the wildest. Around noon on Tuesday, the National Weather Service noticed that the incoming storm was filled with turbulent air that produced rarely heard thunderstorms. Then things got odder: forecasters noticed that the radar echoes looked like the signature of evolving tornados. So they issued a tornado warning for Seal Beach, and quickly extended it to most of northern and central Orange County. The warning was in effect from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., during which time a water spout appeared off Huntington Beach, and a twister appearly touched down in Sunset Beach, flipped an SUV. St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo will have at least one new assistant coach on his 2010 staff. That’s because wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett has left the Rams. He’s heading to the University of Tennessee where he will be an assistant head coach. “It’s a good situation for him,” Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said Monday. “It was one of those (opportunities) that he couldn’t say ‘no’ to. With tens of thousands of Haitians feared and now presumed dead, with much of Port au Prince destroyed, an issue on President Obama’s desk is whether he will sign off on granting Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Haitians already in this country. It’s a non brainer, something he should have been done 3 days ago. The Obama Administration noted that it would cease deporting deportable Haitians back to Haiti. This means that about 30,000 Haitians can remain in the U.S. for the time being— a good thing– albeit with no rights, no work authorization with which to work and send remittances back to their country in crisis, and with many in detention—a bad thing–. I’ve been racking my brain over this one. Last year I felt I at least knew the direction the team would go in, but was surprised as most were by the pick of Jean Alexandre. This year it’s much more difficult to predict the direction that the team will go in. Long-term depth is likely the key. Real Salt Lake is least deep currently at defender, but among the current squad the midfield is the most likely to thin due to a couple of aging players (Mathis, Williams). Based on recent conversations with Garth Lagerwey, I would expect RSL to play this one more straight forward (No Jean Alexandre picks from left field), but I would also bet they favor younger players or players with upside. Memphis garage rocker Jay Reatard has died at 29. Goner Records, which has put out several of Reatard's releases, confirmed the news on its website , saying "It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public." According to Memphis' Commercial Appeal , Reatard -- whose real name was Jay Lindsey -- was found dead in his home in the city's Midtown neighborhood at 3:30AM on Wednesday. Memphis police spokesperson Jennifer Robinson said that an investigation is ongoing. At 15, Reatard began his prolific career, which blended garage rock, punk and lo-fi styles. VISTA ---- Walmart Stores Inc. said Monday it is closing the Sam's Club store in Vista as part of a cost reduction plan that includes closing nine other money-losing outlets and cutting 1,500 jobs. The stores will close Jan. 22. Three other Sam's Club stores in California are closing, in Irvine, La Quinta and Sacramento. Outside of California, stores are closing in Clay, N.Y.; Louisville, Colo.; Nampa, Idaho; Rolling Meadows, Ill.; Houston and Phoenix. The Sam's Club in Murrieta will remain open. This past holiday weekend, I had the opportunity to visit Cincinnati. My immediate thought was of delicious Cincinnati chili. And since I was being slack on my meatless regime, I really craved eating the real thing. A week before our trip, I recreated a vegetarian version at home, and thought it came out pretty close, but was really looking forward to tasting that unique chili again. I am not usually one for fast food or junk food, but this is one thing I knew could make me cave, and wanted to indulge. Before our trip, I checked out the Skyline Chili website to see if they had any allergen information, and much to my surprise they have an allergen page which is easily findable. Dell released its tiny gaming PC, the Alienware M11x. Dell released its mini-gamer, the Alienware M11x , which features an 11.1″ 720p display complete with both NVIDIA GT335M and integrated graphics. A 6.5 earthquake off the Solomon Islands caused alarm Monday morning, shaking homes across the island chain. The quake struck at 8:48am local time 88 kms (55 miles) south-southeast of Gizo at a depth of 10 kms (6 miles) according to the USGS . The location of the quake placed it in the Pacific on the Papua New Guinea side of the Solomons, with open water to Queensland to the South West. The were no reports of damage at the time of writing. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a “Tsunami Information Statement (high)” rating for the quake, a step below an actual tsunami warning. Mccluster, Ole Miss Football :Mississippi senior running back-receiver Dexter McCluster has become the first player in Southeastern Conference history with 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving in the same season. An All-SEC pick as an all-purpose player, McCluster surpassed both marks in the first quarter of the Cotton Bowl on Saturday against Oklahoma State. He entered only 15 yards shy of the rushing mark and 25 short in receiving. A catch on the final play of the first quarter gave McCluster two receptions for 28 yards. He had already run 10 times for 41 yards. McCluster is only the fourth Ole Miss player with a 1,000-yard rushing season.
